Reinstalling Networking Components using the inetwiz:

After removing the networking components and rebooting, the easiest way to reinstall fresh copies of DUN, TCP, and Dial-up Adapter is to run the Internet Connection Wizard (inetwiz).  This has the added benefit of also creating a brand new DUN connection as well.

Click Start, then Run.

Type the word inetwiz in the Open field of the Run dialogue.  Click OK.

Select Connect using my phone line.  Click Next.

The inetwiz detects that the networking and DUN components are missing.  Click OK to continue.

If using .cab files instead of your Win98 CD, the following error will pop up after clicking OK.  It's looking for your CD-ROM, which you aren't using.  Just click OK to continue.

The following screen is asking where your .cab files are stored.  In the "Copy files from" box, type the path to the folder where the .cab files are stored.  This is the path you found by going to Start->Find as described above in the section on finding .cab files.
Note:  Many computers have these stored in "C:\Windows\Options\Cabs".

Click OK.  You will see files being copied, after which you will continue the inetwiz.

When the inetwiz continues, select Create a new dial-up connection.  Click Next.

NOTE:  If there are no other connections set up in the DUN, INetWiz will skip this next screen.

In the Area Code field, remove any numbers.

In the Telephone number field, type in the local-access number for our ISP. (This is NOT your telephone number. It's our number in your area.)

You can lookup a local dial-up number to connect to our ISP at http://www.sisna.com/dialuplocations.asp.

Remove the checkmark from Dial using the area code and country code.

Click on Advanced to see the Advanced Connection Properties.

Nothing on the Connection Tab needs to be changed, so click the Addresses Tab. The IP address should be left as "Internet service providers automatically provides one" for the selection. Under the DNS server address at the bottom, select the option for "Always use the following."

The Primary DNS Server is 209.210.176.8 and the Alternate DNS Server is 209.210.176.9.

Click OK when completed.

After clicking OK, you will be returned to the phone number screen.  Click Next to continue.

Put in your username and password that you've already registered with us. Be sure to add @sisna.com to the end of the username.  Passwords are cASe SenSiTiVE so be careful and make sure that your Caps Lock key isn't activated. Click Next.

You can leave Connection name as it is or you can change it to something more descriptive, such as your ISP's name.

You have now successfully set up a Dial-Up Networking Connection.  Click Next to complete the setup.

Click No to bypass the email setup.  We're only concerned about the connection for now.

Click Finish to complete the Internet Connection Wizard.

At this point you will see what appears to be an error.  Don't worry; this is not really an error.  Since you haven't restarted the computer since installing DUN, the inetwiz doesn't recognize the connection it just created.

Simply click OK and restart your computer.

You will have fresh copies of DUN, TCP, and the Dial-up Adapter, as well as a brand new DUN connection.
