Introduction to Profiles for separate Users:

Setting up additional profiles is much more complicated in Opera than most other e-mail clients.  Therefore, the following tutorial is in two parts:

1.  Creating a folder to hold the new users settings and e-mail, and
2.  Configuring the new user account to point to the folder.

Setting up additional profiles in Opera 7.5 (Part 1):

To set up a folder to hold the soon-to-be-created user, follow these steps:

Click Start and select My Documents from the menu.

Note:  In Windows 95/98/Me/2000, click Start -> Documents -> My Documents.

Important:  in this example, I'm creating the new folder in My Documents.  You do not have to create your new folder in My Documents.  You can create it anywhere you like.

The My Documents folder opens.

On the Toolbar, click File and select Folder from the menu.

A new folder appears.

Give the newly created folder a name.  In this example, I gave the folder the name 'John Boy's'.

Note:  again, you can create the folder anywhere you'd like and name it anything you'd like.

Open your new folder.

On the Toolbar, click File, select New -> Text Document from the menus.

Name the new folder Opera7.ini.

Since you're changing the extension from .txt to .ini, you'll get the following window:

Since you want to change it, click Yes.

The new file now looks like the following:

Double click the file to open it.

Type the following:

Opera Preferences version 2.0
[USER PREFS]
Opera Directory=
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\John Boy's
[MAIL]
Mail Root Directory=
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents\John Boy's\Mail

Important:  the paths NOT in bold should be the paths to your particular folder.  The rest of the information should be exactly the same.

Important:  In Part 2 you'll create the user account that you'll assign to this folder.  Click here to learn how to create the new user account in Part 2.
