Key Settings: 

News Server The News server usually follows this format: news.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name.

Note:  Your ISP may require you to enable NNTP authentication.

 

  Creating a new newsgroups account:

Newsgroups are discussion groups.  They are similar to chats only they aren't necessarily in real time.  Newsgroups cover almost every subject imaginable, and therefore, appeal to a wide variety of people.  A newsgroup client functions they same way as an e-mail client.

To create new newsgroups accounts in Agent, follow these steps:

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Servers and Accounts from the menu.

 

The General Preferences window opens.

In the bottom, left-hand corner of the window, click the New button and select News Server from the menu.

 

Enabling NNTP authentication:

We require NNTP authentication.  This helps to deter people from within our system from spamming you.  To enabled NNTP authentication, do the following:

Step 1: Configure news server:

News Server  =  News Server Enter the address of your news server.  It follows this format:  news.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name.

Note:  Your ISP may require you to enable NNTP authentication.


Login Method:  Select Login with a simple username and password.

Username  =  Enter your dial-up username including the domain tail.

Check the box Remember password between sessions.

Password  =  Enter your dial-up connection password.

Important:  Passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure the Caps Lock key is NOT enabled.

Click the Next button.

 

Step 2:  Finish:

Verify the information you entered.  Click the Previous button if you need to correct anything.

Click the Finish button.

 

We return to the Servers and Accounts window.

To post messages in newsgroups, you must configure an outgoing server.  We'll do that now.

In the bottom, left-hand corner, click the New button and select Email Account and Servers from the menu.

 

The Create Email Account and Servers Wizard launches.

Step 1:

What types of accounts or servers do you want to set up?  Select the Outbound server only, for sending email.

Click the Next button.

 

Enabling SMTP Authentication:

SMTP authentication is required to send e-mail and without this enabled, you will not be able to send e-mail.  SMTP authentication helps deter would-be spammers from spamming you.  It is as simple as entering a username and a password.

Step 2:  Configure outbound email server:

Host Name  =  Outgoing Server The Outgoing (SMTP) mail server usually follows this format: mail.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name.
Login Method  =  Select Login with a simple username and password from the menu.
Username
  =  Enter your e-mail username (everything before the @).
Password  =  Enter your e-mail account password.

Important:  Passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure the Caps Lock key is NOT enabled.

Click the Next button.

 

Step 3:  Finish:

Check the settings to verify if they're correct.  Click the Previous button if you need to make changes.

Click the Finished to close the wizard.

 

We return to the Servers and Accounts window.

That's it.  You're done.

Click the OK button to close the window.

 

If you'd like, Agent can update the newsgroups listings.

Click the Yes button to update now or the No button to update later.

 

We return to Agent's main screen.

You may want to create a persona for this newsgroups account.

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Options from the menu.

 

The Options window appears.

In the Properties column, expand Posting Messages and highlight Personas.

Personas:

Click the Add button.

 

The Edit Persona window appears.

Name:  Give the persona a name.
Email Address:

Address:  Enter your e-mail address.
Full Name:  Enter your name.

Allowed Message Types:

To allow Agent to send and receive messages with this persona, select the option Email messages.

Click the OK button to close the window.

 

We return to the Options window.

That's it.  You're done.

Click the OK button.
