  Creating new e-mail accounts in Evolution:

Key Settings:

Incoming Mail Server = follows this format: mail.ispname.com with your ISP's name substituted for "ispname.com".

Outgoing Mail Server = follows this format: mail.ispname.com with your ISP's name substituted for "ispname.com".
      SMTP Authentication (e-mail username) is required to send e-mail.

If you're opening Ximian Evolution for the first time and don't see the screenshot below, click here.  If you'd like to create additional e-mail accounts, do the following:

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Settings from the menu.

 

The Evolution Settings window appears.

To create a new e-mail account, click the Add button to the right.

 

The following welcome window appears:

Note:  when you open Ximian Evolution for the first time, a setup wizard appears to guide you through the process of creating an account.  For those of you who see this screen first, start here.

Click Next to continue.

 

The Identity screen appears.

Full name  =  enter your name or a nickname.
Email address  =  enter your e-mail address.

Click Next to continue.

 

The Receiving Email screen appears.

Server Type  =  select POP from the menu.

Click Next to continue.

 

The following screen appears:

Configuration:

Host  =  enter the name address of the incoming mail server:  mail.ispname.com.
Username  =  enter the first part of your e-mail address (without @ispname.com).

Authentication:

Authentication type  =  select password from the menu.
Check the box Remember this password.

Click Next to continue.

 

If you'd like, Evolution can check for new messages in the increments you specify.

To enable this function, check the box Automatically check for new mail...  and enter an amount that satisfies your tastes.

Click Next to continue.

 

The Sending Email window appears.

Server Type  =  select SMTP from the menu.

Server Configuration:

Host  =  enter the name address of the outgoing mail server:  mail.ispname.com.
Check the box Server requires authentication.

Enabling SMTP Authentication:

Authentication:

Authentication Type  =  select PLAIN from the menu.
Username  = 
enter the username of your e-mail account (everything before @ispname.com).
Check the box Remember this password.

Click Next to continue.

 

Account Information:

Name  =  give the account any name you'd like.

Click Next to continue.

 

The Timezone window appears.

Select the timezone closest to you.

Click Next to continue.

 

The Importing Files screen opens.

If there are any files to import (messages, address books, accounts) you can do so here.

Click Next to continue.

 

Your done.

Click Finish to complete the wizard.
