Creating a new newsgroup account in KNode:

Newsgroups are discussion groups and cover almost every conceivable subject known to man.  You can download newsgroups and read them like you would e-mail.  You can also post your own thoughts on the subjects.  This tutorial discusses how to create a newsgroup account in KNode.  Follow these steps:

On the Toolbar, click Settings and select Configure KNode from the menu.

The Preferences window appears.

In the left-hand column, click the Accounts category to expand its menu.

Highlight News.

To the right, click the New button.

Enabling NNTP Authentication:

NNTP authentication is required to log on to the news server.  This helps deter people from spamming you and others.  If you do not enable it, you will not be able to log on.  It is as simple as entering a username and password.

Select the Server tab.

Name  =  enter a name for the new account.
Server  =  enter the name address of the news server:  news.ispname.com.
Port  =  enter the default port of 119.

Check the box Server requires authentication.
User  =  enter your dial-up account username (including @ispname.com).
Password  =  enter the password to your dial-up account.
Important:  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock is NOT enabled.

Select the Identity tab.

This information should already be entered.  You can modify it here if you need to.

Name  =  enter your name or a nickname.
Email address  =  enter your e-mail address.

Tip:  if you want to avoid spam, do not enter your real e-mail address.

Click OK when finished.
