Creating a new newsgroup account in KRN:

Newsgroups are chats or discussions that take place on the Internet and cover a wide variety of topics.  You download them just like e-mail.  You can also post (respond) to them to state your own view point or ask for additional information.  The following tutorial illustrates how to create a newsgroup account in KRN.

On the Toolbar, click Options and select Identity from the menu.

The Identity Configuration window appears.

Real Name  =  enter your name here.
E-mail Address  =  enter your e-mail account address.
Organization  =  you can leave this blank.

Click OK.

On the Toolbar, click Options and select NNTP Options from the menu.

Enabling NNTP Authentication:

The NNTP Configuration window appears.

Servers:

SMTP Server  =  enter the name address of the outgoing mail server:  mail.ispname.com.
NNTP Server  =  enter the name address of the news server:  news.ispname.com.

Mark the box Authenticate.

User Name  =  enter your dial-up username (including @ispname.com)
Password  =  enter your dial-up password.
Important:  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock is NOT enabled.

Click OK when finished.

Now you just need to download the newsgroup list, subscribe to the newsgroups that interest you, and download the postings.  To accomplish this, do the following:

Click the All Newsgroups folder.

The following window should appear:

Click Yes that you want to download the available newsgroups list.

A list of folders will download.  Find the topic(s) that suit(s) your tastes, and expand the menu.

Click the newsgroup(s) you like and download the available postings.

Highlight any of the newsgroup postings, and read the text below.
