  Configuring and connecting:

Transmit is a very simple, intuitive, FTP client for Macintosh OS X.  After launching Transmit, the following screen appears:

On the left-hand side is a column of folders and or files.  On the right-hand side are various fields that you'll need to configure correctly in order to connect to a site.  To configure these fields, do the following:

Server  =  enter the address of the FTP server.  If you're connecting to your personal Web space, the address follows this format:  users.ispname.com.

User Name  =  enter your dial-up username (including the domain tail @ispname.com (or .net)).
Password  =  enter your dial-up password.

Important:  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure that your Caps Lock key is DISabled.

Initial Path  =  leave this blank.
Port  =  enter the default port of 21.

Protocol  =  select Standard (FTP) from the drop-down list.

Click the Connect button.

After a few seconds, Transmit will connect to the site entered.

You'll see two windows.  The left window shows files and folders on your computer.  The right window will show files and folders (if any) on your Web space.

You can create a folder or additional folders on your computer or on your web space.  To do this, click the New Folder button located in the top, left-hand corner of the screen.

A small window appears asking you to give the new folder a name, and asking you where you would like to place the new folder.  In the example below, we chose to place the new folder (we called it "Images") on the server.

Click OK when finished.

The new folder now appears on the server.

You can also delete the folders by dragging them to the Trash.

Transferring files:

Transferring files is as simple as dragging them and dropping them from one window to another.

Upload files:  if you wanted to upload files to your personal Web space, you would drag the files or folders from the left window (your computer (local)) and drop them in the right window (the server (remote)).

Download files:  If you wanted to downlaod files to your computer, you would drag the files or folders from the right window (the server (remote)) and drop them in the left window (your computer (local)).

Note:  you can also upload files by dragging them directly from your Desktop or any other folder on your compter.

Adding to Favorites:

If you use more than one site frequently, Transmit can save the settings of these sites.  This way you won't have to enter the information each time you want to connect to the site.

To add a site to Favorites, do the following:

Click the small drop-down window, and select Add to Favorites from the menu.

A small window will appear.

Nickname  =  give the site a distinctive name.

Look over the information entered to ensure that it is correct, and click OK.

The site configuration is now saved.

To connect to the site, you can select it from the list and click the Connect button.

If you've made a mistake, you can always edit the information.

From the Favorites drop-down window, select Edit Favorites.

The Favorites Editor window appears.

Select the account you'd like to edit and click the Edit button.

Disconnecting:

To end your FTP session, click the Disconnect button located in the upper, right-hand corner of the screen.
