Creating new newsgroup accounts:

Entourage 2001 is the e-mail program that comes with Office 2001 for the Macintosh.  It is very similar to Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express except that it has new features and design elements.

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Accounts from the menu.

 

The Accounts window opens.  Select the News tab.

 

To add a new account, click the New button and select News.

 

Skip the Assistant if it appears:

The Account Setup Assistant may launch.

It is easier to Configure the account manually, so click the button at the bottom left.

 

Enabling NNTP Authentication:

NNTP authentication is required to participate in newsgroups.  This helps eliminate the amount of spam.  It's simply logging on (authenticating) with a username and password.

Account Name  =  give the account a name so you will recognize it later.

Personal Info:

E-mail account  =  choose which e-mail address you'd like to use in newsgroups.
Organization  =  you can leave this blank.

Receiving News:

News Server = follows this format: news.ispname.com with your ISP's name substituted for "ispname.com.

Place a check for This server requires me to log on.

Account ID  =  this should contain the username of your e-mail address (everything before @ispname.com (or .net). ).

 

Options tab:

On the Options tab you can decide how many headers to download at a time.
