Creating profiles in Netscape 6:

Suppose you have several people in the household using the same computer.  If every e-mail address were configured under the same profile, all the e-mail would be downloaded into the same place.  You would then have to sort through the e-mails finding which belonged to you and which belonged to any other user.  Profiles eliminate this hassle.  Creating a profile is like having your own version of Netscape; they help keep your mail from any other users of the computer.

Important:  to create a profile, Netscape must be closed.

 

Automatic Opening of the Profile Manager:

After you have set up more than one profile, the Profile Manager will open automatically every time you launch Netscape to let you choose between Profiles.

Choose your profile, then click Start Netscape to launch Netscape with that profile.  Or click Manage Profiles to add/delete/rename your profiles.

Important: If you have not created a second profile, this screen will not open.
                 You must first create a second profile through the following route:
                     Go -> Applications -> Netscape -> Netscape Profile Manger
                 This is described in the next section.  Click here to skip past the next section.

 

First Time Opening the Profile Manager:

Click the Macintosh HardDrive to open the window below.

Then open the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder.

In the Applications folder, open the Netscape folder.

Once the Netscape folder is open, click the Netscape Profile Manager.

The Netscape Profile Manager appears.

 

Creating a New Profile:

The Netscape Profile Manager appears.

Click Create Profile.

 

The Create Profile wizard launches.

Click Next to continue.

 

Enter New Profile name  =  give the profile a name.  In this example, I gave the profile the name 'John Boy'.

Click Finish to complete the profile.

 

You now have a new profile.  When Netscape starts, you'll see this screen.  Select your profile and click Start Netscape 6.0.

Important:  you still need to create an e-mail account for this profile.  To learn how to create an e-mail account, click here.

Now, to add profiles, you do NOT need to follow the steps at the top of the page:
          Go -> Applications -> Netscape -> Netscape Profile Manger

Instead, you can simply open Netscape, to see the screen below.  Then click Manage profiles to open the screen above to add/delete/rename your profiles.
