Incoming Mail Server = Follows this format: mail.ispname.com (or .net) with your ISP's name substituted for "ispname.com (or .net)".

Outgoing Mail Server = Follows this format: mail.ispname.com (or .net) with your ISP's name substituted for "ispname.com (or .net)".

SMTP Authentication (e-mail username) is required to send e-mail.

  Creating your first e-mail account:

The first time you run Entourage the Entourage Setup Assistant starts.  It will help guide you through the configuration process.  To create an account using the assistant, do the following:

Select the option I want to start using Entourage without importing anything.

Click the right arrow to continue.

 

Email address  =  Enter your e-mail address.

Click the right arrow to continue.

 

If you entered in an invalid e-mail address or the e-mail address is through a small ISP, you may see the following window:

Simply ensure the address you entered is correct.

Click the right arrow to continue.

 

Verify and complete the following account information:

Your name  =  Enter your name.
E-mail address  =  Enter your e-mail address.
Account ID  =  Enter your e-mail username (everything before the @).
Password  =  Enter your password.

Check the box Save password in Mac OS X Keychain.

Incoming mail server  =  Incoming Server The Incoming (POP3) mail server usually follows this format:  mail.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name. Incoming mail server type  =  Select POP from the menu.
Outgoing mail server  = 
Outgoing Server The Outgoing (SMTP) mail server usually follows this format: mail.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name.

Click the right arrow to continue.

 

If you're connected to the Internet, you can verify that the settings are functional.  Simply click the "Verify My Settings" button.

Click the right arrow to continue.

 

If you choose not to verify the settings, the following prompt appears:

Click the "Skip" button to bypass the verification or click the "Verify" button to test the settings.

 

You'll eventually come to the following window:

Account name  =  Give the account a distinctive name to help you remember it from any others you create.

Click the Finish button.

 

The Entourage window opens.

You still need to enable SMTP authentication.  Do the following:

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Accounts from the menu.

 

The Accounts window opens.

Select the Mail tab.

Highlight the desired e-mail account and click the Edit button.

 

The Edit Account window appears.

Account Settings tab:

Sending Mail:

Click the button Click here for advanced sending options.

 

Enabling SMTP Authentication:

SMTP authentication helps deter people from spamming you.  It's as simple as entering a username and password.  Without SMTP authentication, you will not be able to send e-mail.

An extra screen pops down.

Check the box SMTP server requires authentication.

Select the option Log on using:

Account ID  =  Enter your e-mail username (everything before the @).
Password = Enter your password.

Close the small window.

 

We return to the Edit Account window.

Click the OK button to close the window.

 

We return to the Accounts window.

Close the window.
