  Creating message rules:

Filters are rules telling Entourage how to manage your e-mail.  They are used in conjunction with folders.  They can be used to send e-mail automatically to folders you create or eliminate e-mails you don't want.  In this tutorial, we'll create a filter that sends a specific e-mail to the folder we created in the 'Folders' tutorial.

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Rules from the menu.

The Rules window appears.

Click New to create a new rule.

The Edit Rule window appears.

Note the three sections:  Rule Name, If, and Then.

Rule name  =  Give the rule a distinctive name to remember it later.

If:

From the first drop-down menu on the left, select the option From.

From the second drop-down menu, select the option Contains.

In the field next to Contains, enter an e-mail address of a family member.  In this example, we entered "grandma@ispname.com".

Note:  You can add more e-mail address by clicking the "Add Criterion" button.

Then:

From the first drop-down menu, select the option Move message.

From the second drop-down menu, select the folder in which you'd like Entourage to move the message.

Entourage will move to the Family folder any message that contains the addresses we've entered in the From field.

When finished, click the OK button.

The new rule has now been added to the list of available rules.

Create as many as you need.
