Removing Extra SMTP Servers:

There is a common problem experienced when using Macintosh Mail on Macintosh OS X Jaguar (10.2).

This issue covers the program "Mail" for OS X Jaguar (10.2).

You may find odd characters such as semicolons added to your mail server settings.
This is typically caused by the extra SMTP server settings in the "Outgoing Mail Server" pull-down.

Removing the extra "Outgoing Mail Server" settings is simple.

There are 2 steps involved.
    1) Select or Add your SMTP Server and EmailID to the Mail program.
    2) Delete the extra SMTP servers through the "Manage SMTP Servers.scpt" script.

Step 1:  Select or Add your SMTP Server:

Open the Mail program.

On the Toolbar, click Mail and select Preferences from the menu.

The following window opens.

Click the Accounts button at the top to see the screen as shown below.

On the left, highlight the e-mail account you'd like to edit and click the Edit button.

Select the Account Information tab to see the screen below.

Outgoing Mail Server = select your outgoing mail server from the list if there is more than one.
Click the Options button for additional Outgoing settings.

After clicking the Options button under Outgoing Mail Server, the screen below appears.

Outgoing Mail Server = mail.ispname.com. Replace the ispname.com with your ISP's info.

Port  =  the default port number is perfect:  25.

Authentication = Password

User Name  =  this should contain the username of your e-mail address (everything before @ispname.com (or .net). ).

Password = enter your password.

Click OK to return to the Account Information tab.

Step 2:  Remove the extra SMTP Servers:

To remove the extra SMTP servers, open the Macintosh Hard Drive.

The following "Macintosh HD" windows opens.

Open the Library folder.

The following "Library" window appears.

Open the Scripts folder.

The following "Scripts" window appears.

Open the Mail Scripts folder.

The following "Mail Scripts" window appears.

Open the Manage SMTP Servers.scpt script.

The following script manager opens.

Click the Run button to list all SMTP Servers not in use.

After clicking the Run button, a new window lists all SMTP servers not in use.

Select all of the servers by holding down the Shift key while clicking with your mouse.

Once all the servers are highlighted, click OK.

The following screen appears to let you know the servers have been deleted.

Click OK.

A result window appears.  Close this window.

Also, close the "Manage SMTP Servers.scpt" window.

Now when you return to the Mail settings, the extra Outgoing Mail Servers are gone.

That covers everything you need to know about deleting extra Outgoing Mail Servers.
