  Creating message filters:

Filters are used to help organize your e-mail automatically and even send certain types of e-mail to the spam folder so you don't have to see them.  In this example, we'll enable Opera to send e-mail to the folder we just created:  'Family'.

To create a filter, do the following:

On the Toolbar, click Mail and select Filters from the menu.

The Message filters window appears.

Note:  If you haven't created a folder already, you can do so by clicking the Filters button and selecting New filter from the drop-down menu.

Since we created a filter or folder in the "Folders" tutorial, we'll use it.

In the left-hand column, highlight the new filter (folder).

Rules:

Select the option Learn from messages added to and removed from filter.

Match:

To the right you'll see three fields:

1.  Select From header from the drop-down menu.
2.  Select Contains from the drop-down menu.
3.  Enter an address of a family member.  In this example, we entered "grandma@ispname.com".

Now any message that contains 'grandma@ispname.com' in the from header will be placed automatically in the 'Family' folder.

There are many types of filters to create.  Be creative.

Click the OK button to save the filter and to close the window.
