Configuring Netscape 7.2 Browser:

To configure Netscape 7, follow these steps:

On the Toolbar, click Netscape and select Preferences from the menu.

The Preferences window opens.

Double click Navigator to open its menu.

To the right, you'll see Home Page. This is the page that will open up when you launch Netscape.

Location = enter the URL of the homepage you'd like to see when you launch Netscape.

Clearing the History and Location Bar:

Highlight History.

To the right, you'll see Browsing History. The history is a list of web pages you've visited. You can delete the History by clicking Clear History.

The Location Bar History (commonly referred to as the Address Bar) contains a list of web addresses you've typed. You can clear those here.

Highlight Tabbed Browsing.

If you'd like to have a separate instance of Netscape open for each site you visit, you can do so. You can also utilize Netscape's tabbing feature. You can open each page you go to in a tab rather than a new window. To open a new tab, click Command + T on your keyboard. (The Command key is the key with the Apple symbol).

Deleting the Cookies:

Double click Privacy & Security to open its menu.

Highlight Cookies.

Enable cookies to suit your needs. Please note that you will need cookies enabled to use our home page and web-mail features. In fact, many sites require that you have cookies enabled (bank sites and credit unions, for example). If cookies are disabled, you will not be able to access these sites.

Important: you should clear the cookies periodically. A full cookie folder can decrease browsing performance.

To delete the cookies, click the "Manage Stored Cookies" button.

Enabling Netscape's Pop-up Blocker:

In the Privacy & Security menu, highlight Popup Windows.

Pop-up windows are small panes (pains) or advertisements that appear when you go to certain web sites. Some web sites have five, six, seven, and sometimes more pop-ups. Needless to say, they can be extremely annoying. Netscape 7.2 has a built-in pop-up blocker.

To enable the Netscape's pop-up blocker, check the box Block unrequested popup windows.

Click the Allowed Sites button.

The Allowed Web Sites window appears.

In some cases, you may want to view pop-up windows from certain sites. You can enable Netscape to allow pop-up windows for these sites. To add a site, do the following:

Allowed popups from the following web sites = Enter the address of the site for which you'd like to allow pop-up windows.

Click the Add button.

When finished, click the OK button.

Enabling Java:

Double click Advanced category to expand its menu.

Java is an important part of the Internet. Many pages utilize Java; therefore, to enjoy all the Internet has to offer, you should enable Java. Without Java, many pages won't function properly. You should also enable XSLT.

In the Advanced menu, highlight Scripts & Plug-ins.

Enable JavaScript for:

JavaScript is not the same as Java. JavaScript can enhance Web pages and servers. Many Web pages utilize JavaScript. To view and interact with these pages, you'll want to enable JavaScript for Navigator.

Clearing the Cache:

Highlight Cache.

All Internet sites you visit are stored on your computer for quicker access later or for viewing offline. This includes images and text. You clear them by clicking both Clear Memory Cache and Clear Disk Cache.

Note: If you are having trouble surfing or can't surf at all, clearing the cache may solve this problem.

Setting The Proxy:

The most common reason to use Proxies is:

Filtering: Web sites are filtered to stop unwanted sites dealing with smut, violence, etc. from reaching your computer. The proxy address is available from your ISP's support center.

To enable the proxy, follow these steps:

1. Highlight Proxies.

2. Mark the circle Manual proxy configuration.

3. The screen below shows settings for Filtering.

If you don't know the address and port, contact your ISP's support center.

Click OK when finished.
