Disabling AVG's antivirus and e-mail scanning protection:

E-mail is the most common way in which computer viruses are spread, so you should typically have automatic e-mail scanning enabled.  E-mail scanning applies to programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Pegasus, etc.  E-mail attachments, html files, etc. will be scanned automatically.  If you are having problems with an e-mail program, turn off AVG Antivirus to ensure AVG Antivirus is not the culprit.  Enabling AVG Antivirus is quite simple.  Do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the AVG Antivirus icon.

Right click the AVG Antivirus icon and select Launch AVG Control Center from the menu.

The Control Center window appears.

On the left, highlight E-mail Scanner.

Toward the bottom, right-hand corner of the window, click the Properties button.

The E-mail Scanner window appears.

Select the Plugins tab.

Toward the bottom, right-hand corner of the screen, click the Disable plugin button.

Click the OK button to close the window.

The E-mail Scanner has now been disabled.

Close the window.

  Re-enable Automatic E-mail Scanning:

To re-enable automatic e-mail scanning, do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop, right click the AVG Antivirus icon and select Launch AVG Control Center from the menu.

The Control Center window appears.

On the left, highlight E-mail Scanner.

Toward the bottom, right-hand corner of the window, click the Activate button.

The E-mail Scanner is now enabled.

Close the window.
