  Disable McAfee VirusScan 8:

E-mail is the most common way in which computer viruses are spread, so you should typically have automatic e-mail scanning enabled.  E-mail scanning applies to programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Pegasus, etc.  E-mail attachments, html files, etc. will be scanned automatically.  If you are having problems with an e-mail program, turn off McAfee VirusScan 8 to ensure McAfee VirusScan 8 Antivirus is not the culprit.

Note:  Disabling the McAfee VirusScan 8 Control Center will disable not only the automatic e-mail scanning but all of McAfee VirusScan 8's protection.  To disable just the e-mail protection, click here.

Disabling McAfee VirusScan 8 is quite simple.  Do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the McAfee VirusScan 8 icon.

Right click the McAfee VirusScan 8 icon and in the menu select the option Open SecurityCenter.

 

The McAfee SecurityCenter window opens.

In the left-hand column, select the virusscan tab.

VirusScan is currently protecting your computer from viruses.

To the right, click the underlined link Click here or disable.

VirusScan is now disabled.

 

  Re-enable McAfee VirusScan 8:

In the event you remember to re-enable McAfee's protection, do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the McAfee SecurityCenter icon.

Right click the McAfee SecurityCenter icon and in the menu select the option Open SecurityCenter.

 

The McAfee SecurityCenter window opens.

In the left-hand column, select the virusscan tab.

VirusScan is currently not protecting your computer from viruses.

To the right, click the underlined link Click here or enable.

VirusScan is now enabled.
