  Disabling Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional's e-mail scanning protection:

E-mail is the most common way in which computer viruses are spread, so you should typically have automatic e-mail scanning enabled.  E-mail scanning applies to programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Pegasus, etc.  E-mail attachments, html files, etc. will be scanned automatically.  If you are having problems with an e-mail program, turn off Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional to ensure Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional is not the culprit.  Disabling Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional e-mail scanning protection is quite simple.  Do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional icon.

Right click the Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional icon and select Configure Norton AntiVirus from the menu.

 

The Norton AntiVirus Options window appears.

Internet:

In the left-hand column, highlight the option E-mail.

What to scan:

Uncheck the option Scan incoming Email (recommended).
Uncheck the option Scan outgoing Email (recommended).

Automatic e-mail scanning is now disabled.

Click the OK button to close the window.

 

  Re-enable Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional's e-mail scanning protection:

Enabling Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional e-mail scanning protection is just the reverse.  Do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional icon.

Right click the Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional icon and select Configure Norton AntiVirus from the menu.

 

The Norton AntiVirus Options window appears.

Internet:

In the left-hand column, highlight the option E-mail.

What to scan:

Check the option Scan incoming Email (recommended).
Check the option Scan outgoing Email (recommended).

Automatic e-mail scanning is now enabled.

Click the OK button to close the window.
