Disabling PC-cillin's antivirus and e-mail scanning protection:

E-mail is the most common way in which computer viruses are spread, so you should typically have automatic e-mail scanning enabled.  E-mail scanning applies to programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Pegasus, etc.  E-mail attachments, html files, etc. will be scanned automatically.  If you are having problems with an e-mail program, turn off PC-cillin Antivirus to ensure PC-cillin Antivirus is not the culprit.  Enabling PC-cillin Antivirus is quite simple.  Do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the PC-cillin Antivirus icon.

Right click the PC-cillin Antivirus icon and select Open Main from the menu.

The Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security window appears.

In the left-hand column, select the Email option.

To the right, click the Mail Scan section.

Mail Scan:

Select the Incoming Mail tab.

Uncheck the box labeled Enable incoming mail scanning (POP3 mail).

Click the Apply button to save the settings.

Select the Outgoing Mail tab.

Uncheck the box labeled Enable outgoing mail scanning (SMTP mail).

Click the Apply button to save the settings.

Close the window.

  Re-enable PC-cillin's antivirus and e-mail scanning protection:

To re-enable PC-cillin's antivirus and e-mail scanning protection, do the following:

In the bottom, right-hand corner of your Desktop is the System Tray and, within it, the PC-cillin Antivirus icon.

The Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security window appears.
