Microsoft Windows 95/98/98SE - Internet Explorer

Repairing the cipher strength of Internet Explorer Windows 95/98/98SE:

To use secure sites on the Internet, Internet Explorer must have a cipher strength of 128-bit.  Internet Explorer 4 and 5 come with a cipher strength of 40-bit.  Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6 come with 128-bit encryption.  If you have anything less than 128 you should:

1.  Upgrade your browser to at least 5.5.
2.  Download and install a High Encryption Pack from Microsoft.  This need only be done if you have version 5.01 or lower and you don't want to upgrade to version 5.5 or higher.

Although Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 come with 128-bit encryption, files can become corrupt and lower the encryption to 0.  If this is the case with your Internet Explorer, you'll need to repair it.  To do this, you'll need to reinstall Internet Explorer.  Follow these steps:

Note:  Internet Explorer 6 does not work with Windows 95.  You'll need to upgrade to 5.5 or install a High Encryption Pack.  To learn how to install the High Encryption Pack, click here.
