Microsoft Windows XP - Internet Explorer

Repairing the cipher strength of Internet Explorer for Windows XP:

Windows XP is shipped with Internet Explorer 6.  The cipher strength for Internet Explorer 6.0 is at 128-bit encryption.  However, files can become corrupt and lower the encryption to 0.  If this is the case with your Internet Explorer, you'll need to repair it.  To do this, you'll need to reinstall Internet Explorer.  Follow these steps:

Important:  you will need your Windows XP CD to perform the following steps.

On your Desktop, click Start and select Run from the menu.

The Run window appears.

In the Open field, enter c:\windows\inf.

Click OK.

The inf window appears.

Search for the inf file labeled ie.

Right click the file and select Install from the menu.

The following window appears:

Enter the path to the i386 folder on your Windows XP CD.  The path usually follows this format:  Drive:\i386 where "Drive" is equal to your CD-ROM drive letter.

Click OK.

Windows XP will now reinstall Internet Explorer 6.

If you still can't browse, do the following:

On your Desktop, click Start.  At the top of the column, right click Internet Explorer and select Internet Properties from the menu.

The Internet Properties window opens.

Click the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Security section.

Ensure that Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 are checked.

Click OK to apply and close the window.
