  Chatting with your buddies via Exodus:

If you'd like to chat with a friend or contact, double click on the contact ID.

 

A new tab with the contact with whom you'd like to chat appears.

Note the two smaller frames.  Any words sent by either you or your contact will appear in the larger frame.  The words you enter in the lower frame will appear in the upper frame the moment you click the Enter key on your keyboard.
