  Adding a buddy to your contact list in Vista:

You'll need a list of contacts in order to chat.  To add a contact, do the following:

Click the Add a Contact icon as shown below.

 

The Add a Contact window appears.

Messaging Service  =  Jabber should be selected.

User's ID  =  enter the IM address of the contact you wish to add.  It should follow this format:  username@im.ispname.com.
Nickname  =  enter a nickname, if any, of the contact you wish to add.
Groups  =  select the group of which you'd like the new contact to be a part.
Message  =  you can enter a message here for the contact to see.  If you don't, he/she may not know it's you.

Click the Add button.

 

The new contact appears, but you need to wait until he/she accepts you as a contact.

Note:  this particular contact happens to be offline.

 

When they come online, they'll receive the request and either accept or decline you.
