  Various options in Yabber:

Myriad options exist in Yabber; however, we will only discuss some of the more prominent options here.  To access Yabber's options, do the following:

Towards the bottom, left-hand corner, click the three-arrowed button, and select Preferences from the menu.

 

The Preferences window appears.

In the left-hand column, highlight Messages.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Connection.

You can stipulate whether your connecting through a dial-up connection or a broadband connection like DSL or wireless.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Startup.

The section contains the startup settings.  You can choose to launch Yabber automatically when you start Windows or have Yabber connect to the IM server when you launch it.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight System.

You can enable Yabber to check for updates automatically.  Updates fix any bugs in the programming as well as offer enhancements to the functionality of Yabber.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Sounds.

You can choose to have Yabber play a sound when a contact comes online, when you receive a message or a chat invitation, when a contact goes offline, etc.  You can even stipulate which sound will be played.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Status.

You can enable Yabber to alert your friends automatically when you're away from the computer.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Status Messages.

You can edit the actual message that your contacts will see when you're Available, Free For Chat, Away, etc.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Security/Privacy.

You can stipulate if you want Yabber to accept automatically all subscription requests.  If you don't have this enabled, you'll receive a request window for each person wanting to be in your list of contacts.

 

In the left-hand column, highlight Ignore List.

Occasionally you come across chatters who are annoyance or even offensive.  You can block them by entering their names and JIDs.

Click OK to close the window.
