  Edit a PPPoE Connection for the Gnet DSL Modem for Windows XP:

The easiest way to configure an Internet connection for the Gnet modem is by running the New Connection Wizard.  The following screenshots show how to configure the connection for a Gnet modem.  Do the following:

On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Control Panel from the menu.

 

The Control Panel appears.

Double click the Network Connections icon.

 

The Network Connections window appears.

Right click the network connection and select Properties from the menu.

 

The "Connection" Properties window appears.

Select the Options tab.

Dialing options:

If you select the option Display progress while connecting, a box will appear during the connection process.

If you select the option Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc., a window will appear showing your name, password, etc. when you try to connect.

 

Select the Security tab.

Security options:

Select the option Typical (recommended settings).

Validate my identity as follows:

Select Allow unsecured password from the menu.

 

Select the Networking tab.

Type of broadband connection to make:

Ensure you have selected Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE).

Click the Settings button.

 

The PPP Settings window appears.

Uncheck the option Enable LCP extensions.

Ensure you have selected Enable software compression.

Uncheck the option Negotiate multi-link for single link connections.

Click the OK button.

 

This connection uses the following items:

Check the box Client for Microsoft Networks.

Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Click the Properties button.

 

The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window appears.

The IP address should be dynamically assigned, so leave the option Obtain an IP address automatically selected.

Select the option Use the following DNS server addresses.

Preferred DNS server  =  Enter the primary DNS server 209.210.176.8.
Alternate DNS server  =  Enter the secondary DNS server 209.210.176.9.

Click the Advanced button.

 

The Advanced TCP/IP Settings window appears.

Select the General tab.

Check the box Use default gateway on remote network.

PPP link:

Leave the option Use IP header compression blank.

 

Select the DNS tab.

DNS server addresses, in order of use:

It doesn't matter which server is first.  Either one will work.

Leave all other options at their default settings.

 

Select the WINS tab.

Leave all these options at their default states.

Click the OK button to save any changes from the previous tabs and to close the window.

 

Click the OK button to save any changes from the previous tabs and to close the window.

 

Select the Advanced tab.

Internet Connection Sharing:

Leave these options at their default states.

Click the OK button to save any changes from the previous tabs and to close the window.
