!! You MUST have your Windows CD or .cab files for everything on this page !!

Add Network Components Separately:

Links on this page:  Add Dial-Up Adapter | Add TCP/IP | Add Client for Microsoft Networks |

Click My Computer then Control Panel and finally click Network .

You will be at the Network screen below.

You need to make sure that a Dial-up Adapter is installed with TCP/IP protocols. Without these, you'll never get connected to the Internet.  Also, Client for Microsoft Networks needs to be installed and set as the Primary Network Login.  Without this, many programs such as Outlook Express, FrontPage, or BrowseBlast may not function properly.  Once the Client for Microsoft Networks is installed, you'll notice the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop.

In summary, your Internet connection needs the following 3 components installed:
Client for Microsoft Networks  (Also, set as "Primary Network Logon" below the Add/Remove/Prop buttons)
    Dial-Up Adapter
    TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter

Click Add to install TCP/IP or Client for Microsoft Networks.

Note: You cannot add the dial-up adapter here in Windows ME like you could in Win98 and Win95.  The dial-up adapter is part of the DUN connection.  So, the dial-up adapter will show up here after creating a connection.

Adding TCP/IP:

After clicking the Add button on the Network Configuration tab, the following screen appears.

Select Protocol, then click Add.

Select Microsoft on the left.  Then select TCP/IP on the right.  Click OK.

Adding the Client for Microsoft Networks:

After clicking the Add button on the Network Configuration tab, the following screen appears.

Select Adapter, then click Add.

Select Microsoft on the left.  Then select Client for Microsoft Networks on the right.  Click OK.

Once you've finished adding any of the 3 components that were missing, click OK.
!! ONLY Click OK IF you have your Windows CD or .cab files !! --

When the files are finished updating, you will be prompted to restart your computer.

Click Yes to restart your computer.

After restarting, you will need to create a new DUN connection.  Remember, this is the only way to re-add the dial-up adapter after uninstalling it in WinME.

It is recommended that you use the inetwiz to make this new connection.

Alternatively, you can use the Make New Connection icon in DUN.  Click here for help with that.
