Bullet Proof FTP Overview:

SmartFTP is a popular FTP Client for transferring large files.  It can be downloaded for evaluation purposes, after which you must purchase it.  You can download it from www.bpftp.com or from sites like www.tucows.com or www.download.com.

You can connect to only one site at a time, but can keep settings for multiple sites to be used later.

Key Settings:

FTP Host/Address = follows this format: users.ispname.com

Initial Remote Directory = Typically, no directory, initial remote directory or path.

Login/UserID = your username@ispname.com which will route you to the right directory.

Personal Website URL = The address of your website will follow this format: http://users.ispname.com/username

Quick Connect:

You can type all of the settings in the top Host bar.

Host = follows this format: users.ispname.com. No directory, initial remote directory or path.

Login = follows this format: username@ispname.com (which will route you to the right directory)

 

Manage your FTP Sites & Get Connected:

The main window of BulletProof FTP is shown below.

Click the Site Manager button to Manage your FTP Sites or to connect to one of them.

 

After clicking the Site Manager button the following screen appears.

Site Address = follows this format: users.ispname.com. No directory, initial remote directory or path.

Login = follows this format: username@ispname.com (which will route you to the right directory)

Click the Add/Update button   and the site will be added to the list at the bottom.

To connect, highlight your site in the list at the bottom and click the Connect button .

Note: Personal Website URL: The address of your website will follow this format: http://users.ispname.com/username This is the web address where other people will go to see your website.

 

Transfer Files and Folders:

Once connected, Bullet Proof FTP's window looks like the one below.

The white box on the left shows files on your computer.  

The white box on the right shows files on your ftp personal web site.

You transfer files by "dragging-and-dropping" contents from one box to the other.

 

Disconnect from the FTP Server:

When you have finished transferring files, you can disconnect from the FTP server by clicking Main->Disconnect.

Or you can simply click the Disconnect button on the top toolbar.
