Editing existing newsgroups accounts in Netscape 4.X:

There is not really much to edit for a newsgroups account.  If something is incorrect, you'll probably need to delete and recreate the account.  However, this tutorial shows where to go to edit a newsgroups account in Netscape 4.X.

On the Toolbar, click Edit and select Preferences from the menu.

Double click the Mail & Newsgroups category to expand it.

Highlight Newsgroup Servers, then, to the right, highlight the desired news account.

Click the Edit button.

The Newsgroup Servers Properties window opens.

Name  =  this should be the name address of your ISP's new server:  news.ispname.com.

Port#  =  this should be the default port:  119.

Note:  if either of the above are incorrect, you'll need delete the account and reconfigure it; you can't change it here.

Enabling NNTP Authentication:

NNTP authentication helps deter people from spamming other people.  NNTP authentication is as simple as entering a username and password.  When you log in, Netscape will ask you for your username and password.  This will be the username and password of your dial-up account (your Internet connection).

To enable NNTP authentication, check the either Always ask me for my user name and password or Only ask me for my user name and password when necessary.

Click OK when finished.
