  Editing newsgroup accounts:

To edit existing newsgroup accounts in Outlook 2000, do the following:

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Accounts from the menu.

 

The Internet Accounts window opens.

Select the News tab.

Highlight the desired newsgroup account and click the Properties button.

 

The Properties window of your newsgroup account opens.

News Account  =  you can give the account any name you'd like.
Name  =  enter your name.
E-mail address  =  enter an e-mail address.

Important:  to avoid spam, the e-mail address doesn't have to be your real one.

Select the Server tab.

 

Server name  =  enter the name address of the news server:  news.ispname.com.

Enabling NNTP Authentication:

We require NNTP authentication.  This helps to deter people from within our system from spamming you.  To enabled NNTP authentication, do the following:

Check the box This server requires me to log on.

Account name  =  enter you Internet connection username (including the domain tail @ispname.com).
Password  =  enter your Internet connection password.
Important  =  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock is NOT enabled.

Check the box Remember password.

Important:  do NOT check the box 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication'.

Select the Connection tab.

 

Enabling Outlook's Auto-dial feature:

Outlook can automatically connect to the Internet for you using the Internet connection you specify.

If you'd like to enable auto-dial, check the box Always connect to this account using.

Select your Internet connection from the drop-down menu.

Select the Advanced tab.

 

News (NNTP)  =  this should be left at the default port of 119.

Note:  if you have a problem downloading your newsgroups, you can increase the length of the Server Timeouts.

Click OK to apply any changes and exit.

 

The changes have been successfully updated.

Click OK to close the Internet Accounts window.
