Incoming Mail Server = Follows this format: mail.ispname.com (or .net) with your ISP's name substituted for "ispname.com (or .net)".

SMTP Authentication (e-mail username) is required to send e-mail.

 

  Creating additional profiles in Outlook 2000:

Suppose you have several people in the household using the same computer.  If every e-mail address were configured under the same profile, all the e-mail would be downloaded into the same place.  You would then have to sort through the e-mails finding which belonged to you and which belonged to any other user.  Profiles eliminate this hassle.  Creating a profile is like having your own version of Outlook; they help keep your mail from any other users of the computer.

Note:  In Outlook 2000, you may only create profiles when you've configured Outlook for "Corporate or Workgroup".  If you click on the Tools menu, you'll see either "Accounts" or "Services".  If you see Accounts, Outlook has been configured for "Internet Only".  "Internet Only" doesn't give you the option of profiles.  "Corporate or Workgroup" gives you this option.  If you'd like to change from Internet Only to Corporate or Workgroup, go through the "Changing 'Accounts' to 'Services'" tutorial above.

To create a profile in Outlook 2000, do one of the following steps:

1.  On your Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings -> Control Panel from the menus.
2.  On your Desktop, right click on the Microsoft Outlook icon and select Properties from the menu.

 
 

 

The Control Panel window opens.

Double click the Mail icon to open it.

   

 

The Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings Properties window opens.

On the Services tab, click the Show Profiles button.

 

The Mail window opens.

You should see at least one profile listed.

To create a new profile, click the Add button.

 

The Microsoft Outlook Setup Wizard.

Select Use the following information services.

Select the option Internet E-mail.

Click the Next button to continue.

 

The following window appears:

Profile Name  =  give the profile a specific name.  In this example, we named it "John Boy".

Click the Next button to continue.

 

You'll need to create at least one e-mail account for the new profile.  You may do that here.

Click the Setup Mail Account button.

 

The properties window appears.

Mail Account:

Give the account a unique name.  In this example, we named it "John Boy", but you may give it any name you like i.e., Work, Personal, etc.

User Information:

Name  =  Enter your name or a nickname.
E-mail address  =  Enter your e-mail address.

 

Select the Servers tab.

Server Information:

Incoming mail (POP3)  =  Incoming Server The Incoming (POP3) mail server usually follows this format:  mail.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name.
Outgoing mail (SMTP)  =  Outgoing Server The Outgoing (SMTP) mail server usually follows this format: mail.ispname.com (or .net).  Replace the "ispname.com (or .net)" with your ISP's name.

Incoming Mail Server:

Account name  =  enter the username of your e-mail address (everything before the @).
Password  = 

Important:  Passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock key is DISabled.

Outgoing Mail Server:

Select the option My server requires authentication.

Click the Settings button.

 

Login Information:

Select the option Log on using.

Account name  =  enter the username of your e-mail address (everything before the @).
Password  =

Click the OK button to save the changes and to close the window.

Click the Next button to continue.

 

The wizard shows where your personal folders will be stored.  You may change them to a different folder, if you like.

Click the Next button to continue.

 

You're done.

Click the Finish button to complete the wizard.

 

Your new profile now appears in the list of profiles.

Set your preferred profile as the the default.  Outlook will open it automatically when started.

Click the Close button.

 

If you'd like to choose a profile when Outlook starts, you'll need to log off the profile when you exit the program.

On the Toolbar, click File and select Exit and Log Off from the menu.

 

When you open Outlook, the Choose Profile window appears.

Profile Name  =  Select the desired profile from the drop down menu.

Click the OK button to access the profile.
