  Configuring new newsgroups accounts:

Configuring newsgroups accounts in Outlook Express is like configuring an e-mail account.

To create a new account, follow these steps:

On the Toolbar, click Tools and select Accounts from the menu.

Select the News tab.

As you can see, no accounts have been configured.

To the right, click Add and select News.

Display Name  =  enter your name.

Click Next to continue.

E-mail address  =  enter the e-mail address of the account.

Note:  if you enter your true e-mail address, you may receive spam.

Click Next to continue.

Enabling NNTP Authentication:

In order to participate in newsgroups, you must log on to the server and authenticate.  This helps deter people from spamming in newsgroups.

News (NNTP) server  =  enter news.ispname.com.

Check the box My news server requires me to log on.

Click Next to continue.

Account name  =  enter the username of your Internet connection (everything before @ispname.com).
Password  =  enter the password of your Internet connection.

Important:  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure the Caps Lock is disabled.

Check Remember password.

Important:  do NOT select Log on using 'Secure Password Authentication'.

Click Next to continue.

You're done creating the account.

Click Finish to complete the wizard.

Close the Internet Accounts window.

The following window should appear.

If you're connected to the Internet, click Yes to download a list of available newsgroups.

Outlook Express will download a list of newsgroups.  There are quite a few, so it could take a minute or so.

When the list is downloaded, the following window will appear.

Select the newsgroup(s) to which you would like to subscribe and click Subscribe.  In this example, I chose '3dfx.d3d.drivers'.

Click OK when finished.

The newsgroups to which you subscribed appear below the news account.

Click it to begin downloading the newsgroups postings.

You can read them just like e-mail.  Highlight the posting and read the text in the box below.
