Creating message filters for your Web-based E-mail:

Message filters can help you organize your e-mail messages as well as delete unwanted messages automatically.  They work in conjunction with folders.  To learn how to create folders, click the 'Folders' link above.

In this example we'll create a message filter that automatically transfers e-mail to a specified folder.

Click the down-arrow for the Options and Styles menu, as shown below.  Then click Filters.

The My Filters tool opens in a new window.

You can change the order in which different Message Filters are applied by clicking the Up or Down buttons.

Click the Add button to create a new message rule.

Click a Modify link to make changes to an existing Message Filter.

Both the Add and the Modify button lead to the same screen, described next.

Clicking either the Add or the Modify button lead to a screen like the one below.

There are 3 steps to creating a Message Filter:
    1) Setup one or more condition for which incoming e-mail messages will be scanned.
    2) If using more than one condition, insert "AND" or "OR" between each condition.
    3) Determine what will be done to messages that match the conditions.

Step 1:  Setup conditions to be checked for incoming e-mail:

The first field, Select Field, allows you set the conditions to look for with incoming e-mail.

First, we selected From from the menu.

Second, we selected contains.

Third, we typed granny@ispname.com in the text field.

Finally, we click the Add Condition button, which places the condition in the Rules section below.

You can add more than one condition for this rule if necessary.

Step 2:  Arrange and add "AND" or "OR" between each condition:

After clicking the Add condition button, the condition appears in the Rules box, as shown below.

Here, the Rules box shows that the condition is "From contains granny@ispname.com".

If you have added more than one condition (in the Select Field area above),

then you will need to click Insert AND or Insert OR between each condition in the Rules box.

Step 3:  Determine action to take on messages which match the condition(s):

The third section, Filter Action, determines what will be done to messages that match the conditions.

In this example we chose to have these messages transferred to the Family folder.

We chose "Move the message to this mailbox" and then typed "Family" in the Destination field.

The final setup is shown below.  Click Finish to complete the setup of this Filter.

After clicking the Finish button, you will be returned to the My Filter screen.

Here you can change the order in which different Message Filters are applied by clicking the Up or Down buttons.

Close the window when you have finished.
