Web-based E-mail

Login Page: follows this format: http://mail.ispname.com, with your ISP's name in place of "ispname.com".

 

Web-based E-mail Overview:

Web-based e-mail allows you to access your e-mail through a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. 

Note: This tutorial shows screen shots using Internet Explorer; however, the content of the images will be the same for any web browser.

This means that you can access your e-mail on any computer anywhere in the world: home, work, school, Internet cafe, etc.  As long as you have access to a computer with a connection to the Internet and a web browser (i.e., Internet Explorer, Netscape), you can access your e-mail.

You can access your WebMail by typing the web address, which typically follows this format:

     http://mail.ispname.com, with your Internet Service Provider's name in place of "ispname.com".

The login screen for the WebMail is shown below.

Email Address = your e-mail address (with or without "@ispname.com" on the end.)

Password = your password for this e-mail address.

Click the Log In button to access your e-mail.

Folder List (Mailbox List):

The left side of the screen shows your Folder List (Inbox, Family, Work, Draft, Sent, Deleted).

By default, only the Inbox is listed.

You can add extra folders to help sort your e-mail.  In this example, we've added 3 folders:
    Family
    Jokes
    Work

You can also add 3 specialized folders, built in to the WebMail.  These are:
    Draft
    Sent
    Deleted

Mailbox:

To the right of the folders, the contents of the selected folder are displayed.
    The Inbox is selected and we we see two messages from "Sally Sue" and "John Doe". 
    The message from "Sally Sue" is selected, and is displayed below the contents of the Inbox.

                                   

Buttons:

The buttons above the Mailbox mostly apply to the messages in the Mailbox.

                           

Buttons
    New        -    Create a message to send to someone.
    Contacts  -    Also known as an "Address Book".  Keep track of your contacts' addesses.

Buttons for messages in the Mailbox:
    Reply        -    Send a reply to the party in the "From:" field of the selected message in your Mailbox.
    Reply All    -    Send a reply to all parties in the "From:" and "CC:" fields of a message in your Mailbox.
    Fwd         -    Send a copy of this message to someone else.
    Delete      -    Delete the selected message.
    Del All       -    Delete all messages in this Mailbox.
    Print        -    Print the selected message.

 

Options Menu:

The "Options and Styles" menu located at the top of your WebMail is shown below.

    Signature
    Forwarding
    Vacation Message

Folders - add/organize your folders/mailboxes to help sort your e-mail.

Filters - Message filters can help you organize your e-mail messages as well as delete unwanted messages automatically.  They work in conjunction with folders.  To learn how to create folders, click the 'Folders' link above.

Contacts - Address Book.  Maintain a list of people and their email addresses.

Forwarding - have e-mail automatically "rerouted" to another e-mail address.

Vacation Message - Acts as an "Auto-Responder" when you will not be checking your e-mail for a while.
