Adobe GoLive 5 - Microsoft Windows

Links for Adobe GoLive 5:  Key settings | Configuration | Transfer your files |

Key Settings:

The Host Address is ftp://users.ispname.com.  There is no initial directory.  You will be asked to logon when you try to connect.  This will take you to your web folder to which you can upload your website material.  The login is your regular dial-up login used to connect to the Internet.  The format is username@ispname.com with your regular password.

The actual website address will be http://users.ispname.com/username with your username you use to connect to the Internet (without @ispname.com).  This is where your friends would go using a browser to see your website.

Configuring Adobe GoLive 5 to connect to your personal web page:

This tutorial will show you the very basic configurations of Adobe GoLive 5 for our servers.  It then shows you how to use transfer (upload & download) your web material to and from our servers.  This section explains how to configure Adobe GoLive 5 to connect to our server.

Launch Adobe GoLive 5

On the Toolbar, click File and select FTP Browser from the menu.

The FTP Browser window opens.

Server  =  enter the server address.  It follows this formula:  users.ispname.com.  You do NOT need 'http;//', 'www', or 'ftp://'.
Directory  =  leave this field empty.  Your username and password will get you to the correct directory.
Username  =  enter you Internet connection username:  username@ispname.com where the username if your particular username.  Remember to enter @ispname.com after your username.
Password  =  enter the password of your Internet connection.

Important:  passwords are case-sensitive.  Ensure your Caps Lock is disabled.

Check the box next to Save so you don't have to enter your password each time you connect to your site.

When all the information is entered correctly, click Connect.

Note:  this does not connect you to your ISP.  It only connects you to our server after you've already connected to the Internet.

Transferring your material to our server for viewing on the Internet:

After connecting to your Internet Service Provider and the remote site (our server), open your site window next to your FTP Browser window.

To do this, click File and select Open from the menu.

A window similar to the following appears:

In the example below, the site window has only one file called index.html.

Dragging & dropping the file from the site window into the FTP Browser window will upload the file to your web folder on our server allowing people to view it.  Wait for the transmission to finish.  Once done, use a web browser such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer to view the website from the Internet.

Dragging & dropping files and pictures from the FTP Browser window to your site window will download the files to your computer.

These are the basics.  For intermediate and advanced website design information, we suggest searching the Internet or the computer section of your local bookstore.  There are lots of good educational resources covering all aspects of web design and programming.
